This blog explores points of intersection between librarianship, democracy and the public sphere.  I’m also using this site to compile a working bibliography of writings and research which deal specifically with issues related to public libraries and homeless patrons.

I welcome your comments, suggestions, and especially references to relevant writings, research etc.

Hi. I know your most recent blog posts were from a couple years back, but I’m guessing you’re still thinking about libraries and the people who use them, particularly people who are homeless. I don’t know how else to contact you or I would email or call you directly. But I’m working on a journalism-library project. It’s called LibrariUS (http://www.publicinsightnetwork.org/librarius/), and we’re collecting stories from across the country on how people are using libraries. I’d really like to hear from more people who are homeless about how the library is or isn’t meeting their needs, what they use libraries for, and how they’re treated at the library…and whatever else they’d like to tell us.

I’d be most appreciative of any suggestions you might have on how to get the word out. I’m trying to contact bloggers who are homeless and blogging about homeless issues. And I’m working on getting public libraries to embed our widget on their websites so any patron can respond. But I’m not sure where else to go to find people who have experience being homeless and using the library.

    Thanks.

  2. I was just hoping to subscribe to your blog via Google Reader, but I do not see it as a choice. Might you add a broader array of RSS possibilities? Thanks.

Hello. I think it’s only fair to point out to anyone wanting an RSS feed for this blog that I haven’t posted to it for a couple of years. I wrote these posts while I was an MLIS candidate back in 2008. I was planning to conduct some research on the general topic explored here, but for unexpected personal reasons, had to pick up and move, and didn’t have the opportunity to carry out my research design. I’m an academic librarian in another country now, and might actually pick up the topic again now that I’m settled. Anyway, this is a long way of saying that there probably won’t be enough posts in the near future to make an RSS feed especially useful. But maybe if I have a moment I’ll add in the functionality anyway.
